James Ruffier – No.1 Martini Callaway Corvette Z.06R GT3: “The second practice session was really hot inside the car, although the weather isn’t that hot - Maybe I’m getting too old for this! The session was okay, although because the track conditions are changing all the time, that makes setting the car up quite difficult. The track got faster throughout the session, so we used the first part to let Arnaud learn the circuit, then worked on set-up towards the end. It’s very close at the top, so we will have to push hard tomorrow – but we also need to be cautious, which is a difficult combination…”

 

Richard Williams – No.6 Trackspeed Porsche 997 GT3 Cup S: “I found the second session very enjoyable – because David [Ashburn] did all the driving, and I enjoyed the sunshine! Actually, it was disappointing because we have some sort of problem with the engine – it’s making noises that it shouldn’t do. We’re still diagnosing the problem, and we’ve got a spare engine ready if it’s needed. The morning session was okay, although the track was very sandy – the car balance was good.”

 

Thomas Accary – No.8 Hexis Racing Aston Martin DBRS9: “The car is good today, and we had two good practice sessions. We tried a few things on set-up, so we are in good shape for tomorrow’s qualifying sessions. We have done a good job today – but tomorrow is another day, and you never can tell what will happen.”

 

Frédéderic Makowiecki – No.10 Hexis Racing Aston Martin DBRS9: “This track is really good for the Aston Martin, and the team have done a good job. I think we will have a good time in the races, so the weekend starts now. The track was cleaner in the second session, and we got more grip from the tyres. The races are both quite late in the day, so the cooler air should give us a bit more power.”

 

Thomas Mutsch – No.20 Matech GT Racing Ford GT: “We’re suffering from a bit of oversteer, so we have been trying some things with the set-up. I’m not particularly happy, especially comparing our times to the other Ford GT cars. But it’s pretty close, and it should be interesting for tomorrow and Saturday. The track has cleaned up a lot, but if you go off line, you’re then slow for the next three or four corners until the tyres have cleaned up.”

 

Phil Quaife – No.32 APEX Motorsport Jaguar XKR: “I was expecting us to be a bit quicker than we are at the moment, because the Jaguar is very fast in a straight line, and the Dubai track has three pretty long straights. But I think that with a supercharged engine, the warm air is causing us to lose some power compared to Nogaro, which is a bit disappointing. But we are improving, from one session to the other, and I’m sure we will continue that tomorrow.”

 

Gilles Vannelet – No.28 Marc Sourd Racing Corvette Z.06R GT3: “We have had a good practice session – I really like this track, especially because I won the Championship here last year [with Henri Moser]. We will wait and see what the rest of the weekend brings – but so far, it has been good.”

 

Jiri Skula – No.38 MM-Racing Corvette Z.06R GT3: “They weren’t great practice sessions for us – we have had a few problems with the car. The handling just isn’t right; we hope tomorrow will be better.”
