Report: Race 2 Quotes, Brno 2008

Quotes

Thomas Mutsch – No.20 Matech GT Racing Ford GT, 1st: “I started from pole, but I got hit from behind in the first corner, which pushed me out onto the dirty part of the track, so I lost a couple of places. We made a set-up change after the first race, and the car was just perfect, so I was able to have a great race. I should thank my competitors – they were all very fair when I was trying to pass them. The performance balancing changes have cost us some power, so it’s not so easy to overtake down the straights – the Corvettes are very fast down the straights, but we are strong on the brakes and through the corners.”

Ian Khan – No.20 Matech GT Racing Ford GT, 1st: “I hadn’t realised that I was extending our lead in my stint; I didn’t see any other cars, and I thought Thomas had given me a really big lead! Today was a good victory after scoring no points in the first race. We need to keep on pushing, especially now we are back in the lead of the Drivers’ Championship.”

Pierre-Brice Mena – No.8 Hexis Racing Aston Martin DBRS9, 2nd: “Yesterday was really bad for us, when a stop-go penalty cost us a podium finish. We knew the car is very strong at Brno; today is the result of a lot of hard work by the team, and we are all very happy.”

Thomas Accary – No.8 Hexis Racing Aston Martin DBRS9, 2nd: “I’m very happy with this result; the Aston Martin is very competitive here, and this is a great result for Pierre-Brice and me, and the whole Hexis team. We will be doing our best at Nogaro, since it’s the ‘home’ race for us and the team – we will have to see how well the Aston will go there.”

Sascha Bert – No.2 Martini Callaway Racing Corvette Z.06R GT3, 3rd: “I have had some success at Brno – I won here in 2006, in the FIA GT Championship. So finishing on the podium is a great result. I’m here to help my friend Alois, and I pushed really hard to get the lead. I had a small gap to the Ford, but Thomas was quicker than me, and got past me. Alois did a brilliant job to hold position – finishing on the podium, in only his sixth race at this level, is unbelievable. I think the Ford GT is still quicker, because I was pushing as hard as I could, but Thomas was still able to go a second a lap quicker.”

Alois Meir – No.2 Martini Callaway Racing Corvette Z.06R GT3, 3rd: “I really can’t believe that we finished on the podium! Sascha is a very good teacher. I know the track from racing here last year in another series; I tried my best. I have to thank Sascha for giving me the car in such a good position.”

Jose Manuel Balbiani – No.5 Kessel Racing Ferrari F430 GT, 8th: “We were lucky to be the first Ferrari home – we got involved in a crash which took out two of our competitors, although we didn’t touch either of them! I did my best to maintain position against the Gold drivers, and then Claudio did a good job to bring the car home. We don’t have the power to overtake the Ford GT or Corvette on the straights – that’s all we need to be in with a chance of winning a race.”

Dino Lunardi – No.43 La Torre Motorsport Dodge Viper Competition Coupe, 11th: “That was a very difficult race – the whole weekend hasn’t been easy. The Viper is not so fast here at Brno; we knew the weekend would be tough, so we’re just looking forward to the races at Nogaro, where we think we will be much more competitive.”

Michael Greenhalgh – No.25 Team Berlanga Ascari KZ1R GT3, 12th: “Our race was looking good – we were in with a chance of a podium finish. But then I caught a backmarker; I thought he had seen me, and was letting me through, but then he closed the door and left me nowhere to go. I went off track and through the gravel, which cost us a lot of time. Maybe next time – I think Nogaro will be a track which suits the Ascari.”

Dominik Kraihamer – No.14 S-Berg Racing Lamborghini Gallardo GT3, 16th: “That was another tough race, although the cooler conditions meant it wasn’t too hot in the car, which is good. The start was pretty good, and we were setting consistent times. At one point I came round a corner and there was something on the track – I spun the car rather than run over it, because I didn’t want to damage the car. The Lamborghini is simply a street car which has been homologated for GT3, so it doesn’t have the pace of some of the other cars, which have had more development – so finishing sixteenth is actually pretty good!”
