Ferrari and BMW on Pole for Rounds 3 & 4

On the Silverstone circuit under the sweeping curves of the Silverstone Wing pit building the grids for Rounds 3 & 4 of the 2011 FIA GT3 European Championship were decided.

In quailfying for Round 3 the top five places were filled by five different manufacturers with the nr50 AF Corse Ferrari 458 Italia claiming its second pole position of the season, this time with Federico Leo at the wheel. The Italian set a fastest lap 2:03.950, 0.2 seconds faster than the second placed nr13 Fischer Racing Ford GT of Markus Palttala with the nr6 Need for Speed Team Schubert BMW Z4 of Edward Sandstroem in 3rd.

In qualifying for Round 4 it was the nr36 Faster Racing by DB Motorsport BMW Z4 of Nick Catsburg who set the fastest lap of the two sessions with a 2:03.042, 0.07 seconds ahead of the LMP Motorsport Aston Martin DBRS9 of Maxime Martin. Francesco Castellacci finished 3rd overall in the nr50 AF Corse Ferrari 458, which keeps the cars 100% top 3 qualifying record inin the championship so far.

Round 3 of the 2011 FIA GT3 European Championship takes place at 13:30 this afternoon.
