Matech Back on Top as Ford GT leads the way in Adria

The #1 Matech GT Racing Ford GT of Thomas Mutsch and Walter Salles set the fastest time of both free practice sessions, with Mutsch lapping the Adria circuit in 1m16.357 seconds in the 60-minute afternoon period.  The #2 Matech GT Racing Ford GT of Dino Lunardi and Eric De Doncker was second quickest in the first seassion but was the quickest car in the night session, with Lunardi setting a time of 1m16.398 seconds, just 0.042 second slower than his team mate.  The top 10 cars were separated by just 0.607 seconds, representing six different manufacturers and included three of the four Ford GTs, with the other posting the 11th fastest time of the day.

The #4 Hexis Racing AMR Aston Martin of Julien Rodrigues and Frederic Makowiecki were third fastest. The #56 CRS Racing Ferrari 430 Scuderia was fourth quickest when Phil Quaife put in his fastest time of the two free practice session as he took the chequered flag for the second time.  Tim Sugden’s Trackspeed Porsche 997 GT3 Cup S was fifth fastest, just 0.14 seconds ahead of Andrea Palma in the #8 Kessel Racing Ferrari 430.

Seventh fastest was the second CRS Racing Ferrari of Chris Goodwin, just 0.006 seconds ahead of the first of the two Fischer Racing Ford GTs driven by Christoffer Nygaard.  Ninth fastest was the Audi R8 of Christopher Haase with the Zakspeed Racing Viper Competition Coupe of Sascha Bert rounding out the top ten. The second Fischer Racing Ford GT of Jochen Krumbach was outside the top 10 by just 0.022 seconds.

Qualifying for Rounds 3 & 4 of the 2009 FIA GT3 European Championship will take place at 11:15am.  Round 3 will then begin at 16:45, with Round 4 rounding off the weekend in Italy at 22:30 for the first ever night race in the FIA GT3 Championship.
