17/03/2011 WRT Step Up to FIA GT3 European Championship in 2011

W Racing Team, the 2010 Belgian GT Champion and official Belgian Audi Importer team, will make its debut on the European scene this year. Indeed, after a thrilling 2010 season, WRT is fully focused on its new targets and, in particular, on achieving success in the GT3 championship which is unanimously recognized as being the most competitive of all: the FIA GT3 European Championship.

The Belgium-based team will enter two Audi R8 LMS in the 2011 FIA GT3 European Championship. Although still very young (the team had its first full season last year), W Racing Team has hit the scene with immediate success and has spent a busy winter gearing itself up for the next challenging step. Capitalizing on its one year experience with the Audi R8 LMS, W Racing Team is fully committed to further establish itself as a leading team running the highly competitive and state-of-the-art GT3 car from Ingolstadt. The pressure will be on the team as it takes the fight against the strongest opposition that has ever existed between racing teams representing the best world cars’ manufacturers. But the pressure will also be on its drivers as the Audi R8 LMS promises to be a very hot challenger in the 2010 competition.

Team manager Vincent Vosse explains: “After a highly successful first season last year, it was obvious for us that international competition was our next big target. But it is important to grow step by step. We needed to build a strong platform before tackling new challenges: this is what we have already done and that we plan to carry on doing in a non-stop process as the new Blancpain Endurance Series and the FIA GT3 European Championship are undoubtedly the most competitive environment for GT3 cars. Although we have already finalized our drivers’ line-up for the Blancpain Endurance Series, we still have flexibility to decide the best drivers’ combination for one car in the FIA GT3 European Championship. We are talking to several candidates at this moment and any interested driver who as not yet contacted us can still do so. We have already scheduled some test sessions for the coming weeks and of course these are included in the preparation for the championships.”

Another boosting news for W Racing Team is that it has recruited in Pierre Dieudonné a man of considerable experience and wisdom to strengthen its human resources.   A successful driver for many years, before another very long spell as Team Oreca’s sporting director, the Belgian veteran has considerable knowledge and expertise of what it takes to win races and championships.

Pierre Dieudonné: “I am really thrilled to work with Vincent, René Verbist and all at W Racing Team, most of whom I already know since a long time. There is a lot of experience in the key personnel of this young team, and also a fresh spirit, which is inspiring. I know how tough the challenge of GT3 is, probably the most difficult and competitive racing category in which any possibility of dominance is basically excluded by the balance-of-performance’s principle. That makes it very exciting and I look forward to work with the drivers who will have such an important role to convert into race wins the very high potential of the Audi R8 LMS and the uncompromising expectations from the whole team.”
