Schubert Motorsport has presented its comprehensive racing programme for the 2010 season. Armed with the new BMW Z4 GT3, the team from Oschersleben will compete in the FIA GT3 European Championship for the first time. The highlight of the season will once again be the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring. Under the guidance of team boss Torsten Schubert and team manager Stefan Wendl, the team is looking to write another chapter in Schubert Motorsport’s success story at this classic event. Alongside preparatory races in the VLN Endurance Championship, the team also plans to race at the ADAC GT Masters and the 12-hour race in Budapest.
“We are delighted to be able to offer our fans a varied programme again in 2010,” says Wendl. “A lot of things are new this season. We will be racing in the FIA GT3 European Championship for the first time. It’s new territory for us, so we want to gain as much experience as possible, in order to quickly establish our team at the front end of the grid. We are putting our faith in the latest customer racing car from BMW Motorsport, the BMW Z4 GT3, for this series. I am certain that we will see a lot of exciting races, and will be in good shape right from the start with the new car.”
Schubert Motorsport boasts a strong driving line-up. Claudia Hürtgen (GER) and Csaba Walter (HUN) already achieved a podium finish in the 2009 FIA GT3 European Championship – and are aiming to return to the steps as soon as possible with Schubert in 2010. The second BMW Z4 GT3 will be driven by a Swedish pair: Patrick Söderlund and Edward Sandström will make their debut in this championship at the curtain-raiser in Silverstone (GBR) on 2nd May 2010.
The line-up for the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring is also an impressive one. Supported by Dorint Hotels & Resort and Foma Norge AS, Richard Göransson (SWE), Stian Sørlie (NOR), Jörg Viebahn (GER) and Hürtgen will alternate behind the wheel of the 480bhp BMW Z4 GT3. Sandström, Söderlund and Marko Hartung (GER) will take their places in the second GT3 racing car, supported by Hartung Logistik. Anders Buchardt and Nils Tronrud (both NOR), who enjoyed success with Schubert in the D1T class in 2009, also return to the Nordschleife, where they will start alongside Lars Stugemo (SWE) in a BMW 320d.
Schubert Motorsport can count on the support of strong technology partners when facing these challenges: Dunlop joins the successful racing team from the Magdeburger Börde region in the FIA GT3 European Championship, and will supply the tyres for the BMW Z4 GT3. Öhlins, BBS and Castrol are also involved as partners.
