Phoenix Racing’s Christopher Haase and Christopher Mies have been confirmed as the 2009 FIA GT3 European Champions by the FIA following the decision by the RACB to reject the appeal made after the result of the final event of the 2009 season at Zolder last October.
Both Christopher Haase and Christopher Mies, who raced to the Drivers Championship in the Phoenix Racing Audi R8 LMS, can now celebrate their best result of their careers to date and are looking forward to the 2010 season.
“We have been waiting a long time for this but now we have been confirmed as GT3 Champions I am very happy,” said Christopher Haase. “I will also receive the Michelin Award, so I can now move forward with my plans to compete in the FIA GT1 World Championship with Reiter.”
“It has taken such a long time but I am very pleased to be able to say I am the FIA GT3 European Champion,” said Christopher Mies. “This is good not just for me, but for Christopher Haase and the whole Phoenix Racing team as well. With my classification as a gold driver it is making it difficult to find a good bronze driver to drive with in GT3 this year. I will be racing with Audi in the ADAC GT Masters and in the VLN but I hope I will be able to do some races in FIA GT3 in 2010.”
Hexis Racing AMR were declared the FIA GT3 European Team Champions at the end of 2009 and now their drivers Thomas Accary and Julien Rodrigues have been confirmed as 2009 FIA GT3 European Vice Champions ahead of Nicolas Armindo and Cesar Campanico (nr32 Team Rosberg Audi R8 LMS) in third place. Frederic Makowiecki and Manuel Rodrigues (nr4 Hexis Racing AMR Aston Martin DBRS9) were 4th one point ahead of Stefano Gattuso in the Kessel Racing Ferrari 430 Scuderia.
