Championship contenders Christopher Haase and Christopher Mies threw down the gauntlet to title leaders Thomas Accary and Julien Rodrigues by setting the fastest time in the opening free practice session of the final weekend of the 2009 FIA GT3 European Championship.  The Phoenix Racing Audi R8 LMS posted a lap time of 1m33.309 on the 4.1km Zolder circuit, 0.795 seconds faster than the Hexis Racing AMR Aston Martin DBRS9 in 7th place.  The second fastest car in free practice was the nr 4 Hexis Racing AMR Aston Martin DBRS9 of Frederic Makowiecki and Manuel Rodrigues, just ahead of the nr25 Alpina BMW Alpina B6 GT3 of Jens Klingmann and Martin Matzke. The second free practice session is due to start at 15:45 local time.
